Springfield Angus was formed in 1976 starting with a small group of performance cattle. The depth and quality of our program have progressed over the years.
In the spring of 2002 we dispersed our cattle to resolve a partnership. Embryos were retained from our best cows in preparation of rebuilding the program. At present we are calving 250 females. We are also working with a cooperator herd to produce additional embryo calves from our donors.
Our present breeding program represents a balance of low to moderate birth weights along with strong maternal, growth and carcass genetics utilizing the breed’s most proven sires.
Our goals are:
- Provide cattle to producers that excel in all areas.
- Market bulls by private treaty. Springfield Angus does a yearly, on-farm bull test.
- Market replacement females through private treaty and/or production sales.
- Serve customers with marketing assistance.
Matthew Cox joined Springfield Angus as manager in the spring of 2002. He and wife, Nicole, are graduates of the North Carolina State Animal Science Program and are committed to the cattle industry. Travis, Matthew and Nicole’s son and Junior assistant was 3 years old Nov. 28, 2008. He is already riding in the tractor and looking forward to cattle work, a cattleman in early development! Nicole and Matthew also welcomed a beautiful daughter, Mackenzie Cole Cox, on 3/3/09.
The Springfield Angus team consists of 3 full time and 2 part time workers. Matthew, Darrell Shearin, Clayton Shearin, Joe Wachs, and Phil are all working together to obtain the goals of the operation.
