The fall calving season is now in full swing, and once again we get the chance to see if the decisions that we made nine months ago were the right ones. A wise man once said that a cattleman would never commit suicide because he is always looking forward to the next calf crop, and that could certainly be said here. We are expecting a good number of embryo calves this year as well as the natural calves out of some of our best donors.

There is no doubt that you can turn to almost any form of media these days and see all of the negative things that you could have ever imagined. Just like everyone else we have seen what can happen when you have the effects of a poor economy combined with two genetic defects. In spite of these we remain optimistic. We have a lot to be very happy about. We have our health, we have finally had a summer with good rains, we have beautiful calves hitting the ground, and our yearling bulls and heifers are looking great. We have had good interest in private treaty sales on females and calls are starting to come in from perspective bull buyers. We think that this is a good sign that things are starting to turn around for the cattle industry and that producers are beginning to think about increasing their herd size or replacing older cattle. This is something that seems to have taken a back seat for the last two years.

The fall sale season is already under way and we will be seeing many of you at several of the upcoming sales. If you are ever in the area or as always if there is anything that we can do to be of assistance to you or your program, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. We would love to visit with you.
